Los Angeles County is finalizing its multi-million dollar land use study examining the future of Whiteman Airport. As we wait for the Board of Supervisors findings, we want to show what’s really at stake, starting with one of the most affordable ways to start an aviation career in Southern California.
Training the Next Generation at Whiteman
Glendale Community College has operated its flight training program at Whiteman since 1998. With four aircraft based at the airport, students receive real-world training for careers as professional pilots, flight attendants, aircraft maintenance technicians, airport operations specialists and other aviation professionals.

The program is part of Glendale’s long history of aviation education, which dates back to 1929. Aviation Department Chair Rob Newman says access to a community airport like Whiteman is essential because it gives students a place to turn what they learn in the classroom into real experience and rewarding careers.

San Fernando Valley Communities Support Whiteman
Glendale Community College isn’t alone in recognizing Whiteman Airport’s importance.
A growing coalition of local Neighborhood Councils has voted to support Whiteman Airport and the community it serves. These councils represent millions of people from across the northeast San Fernando Valley who understand the airport’s value to education, public safety, local jobs, small businesses and community opportunity.
