The Los Angeles County Fire Department has made its position clear: Whiteman Airport is an important partner in protecting Southern California.
In a new interview with the Whiteman Airport Coalition, LACoFD Captain Aaron Katon said Whiteman Airport and the Fire Department are “working together on the same mission.”
That mission, he explained, is protecting lives, the environment, and property.
Captain Katon also described Whiteman Airport and Barton Heliport as “all one part of one big county team.”

Those comments reinforce what pilots, firefighters, first responders, aviation professionals, and the community have long understood: Whiteman Airport is part of Los Angeles County’s public safety infrastructure. It supports emergency response, aviation training, firefighting operations, and the partnerships that help keep our communities safe.

We are grateful to Captain Katon and the entire Los Angeles County Fire Department for taking the time to share their perspective. We are equally grateful for the firefighters who put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities.
The response to this interview has been extraordinary. Thousands of people have already watched and shared the video across social media, helping spread an important message about the role Whiteman Airport plays in serving Los Angeles County.
