Whiteman Airport has long hosted safety seminars for pilots. But on July 27, that effort expanded with the first meeting in an enhanced quarterly series supported by the FAA and Los Angeles County Public Works.
The response was overwhelming. Pilots, flight instructors, aircraft owners and members of the aviation community filled the room to standing-room-only capacity.

Los Angeles County Aviation Chief Jason Morgan opened the meeting with a message that set the tone for the evening: “Safety is the foundation of everything we do at Whiteman Airport.”
During the two-hour seminar, Air Traffic Manager Will Hoyt and local pilot and flight instructor Michael R. Williamson shared practical safety reminders, local procedures and tips for flying at Whiteman and in the surrounding airspace.
The quarterly seminar series is part of a larger set of actions announced by the FAA, including:

Increased oversight of pilots, flight schools and aircraft repair stations

Continued modernization of air traffic control communications

Additional runway safety initiatives

Ongoing pilot education in partnership with Los Angeles County Public Works
